Delhi Government: 10,000 Compensation to Construction Workers in Air Pollution Control

New Delhi, December 17, 2025:

As a reaction to the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, the Delhi government, led by the Labour Minister, Kapil Mishra, declared that the workers of construction were compensated 10,000 rupees in reaction to the measures it took against the workers as a result of the heavy air pollution.

The decision is one among a series of emergency actions that will help safeguard the health of the population and also provide financial relief to vulnerable workers the income of whom is directly affected by the shutdowns caused by pollution.

Construction Workers Relief.

Construction work is usually halted to curb dust and dangerous emissions especially in times of extreme air pollution. Although such restrictions are absolutely necessary due to environmental and health reasons, they pose a severe financial burden on thousands of daily-wage construction workers.

The Delhi government has resolved to offer financial support of 10,000 rupees as money aid to registered construction workers to facilitate them meet their basic household needs on the days when they are not allowed to work because of work limitation.

Labour Minister Kapil Mishra stressed that the government was keen on safeguarding the health and economic safety of workers in case of an emergency related to the environment.

Advisory on Work-From-Home.

The Delhi government had announced a 50% work-from-home (WFH) advisory along with the compensation announcement, both in the private and government offices. This will help in decongesting the roads, limiting the emission of gases in the air, and limiting the number of people who expose themselves to unhealthy air.

It has been recommended that offices should make sure that at least one-half of their staff carries out their work remotely when possible without interference of the service delivery.

Solution to the Air Pollution Crisis in Delhi.

Delhi is still challenged by the frequent air pollution problems and especially in the winter seasons. Due to the contributions of vehicular emission, construction dust, industrial pollution, and unfavorable weather conditions to the problem, factors of this kind play a significant role in the issue.

Within its overall policy of minimizing health risks, the government has adopted measures of emergency such as worker compensation, prohibiting construction, and work at home warnings during heavy pollution.
